Guitars – You have found the right place

What guitar is best recommended for beginners?

“I’m going to start learning to play the guitar soon, so I’m just wondering on what type of guitar and brand should I get?

I’m looking to spend under xxx for a guitar.”

Is this you? Do you have similar questions?

Well then I think you have found the right place.

BTW a great answer to the question would be something like this:

I love how people on this site always say…get a Gibson. Okay, if you got 4 grand, get a Gibson then.

Anyways, whats important when picking a first guitar is to go to your local music shop, perhaps with someone that plays guitar and start grabbing guitaris in your price range. Hold them in your hands, do you like the way the neck feels? Does your hand wrap around comfortably? Do you like the looks? Strum the strings, do you like the sound? Hows the action, are the strings too high from the fretboard? That can be adjusted, but its nice to find one right off the back.

A guitar is a very personal thing that has to fit you. Fenders fit me the best. They are great for my hand size, I love the way the feel, look, and sound, and the action is great on them.

If you’re looking to play electric, standard Squier strats by Fender are nice. The quality of them has really improved and I’m quite pleased with them. Epiphone makes a good starter pack as well, but the epiphone SG specials don’t give you much room to upgrade. You can upgrade a squier start and make it fantastic.

Epiphone makes great acoustics for a good price. Oscar Schmidt also makes some good entry level guitars.

So basically, go ahead try the guitars out that catch your eye and see what one feels right whne you hold it. Its much more personal than picking a brand name.

Also, some people will say start with an electric, its easier! Or start with an acoustic, you’ll be better at it! I say, start with what you want to start with. Do you want to play rock? Get an electric. Do you want to play country or folk? Get an acoustic. Playing the blues? Well, thats harder…do you want to play solo fingerstyle blues? Get an acoustic. Do you want to play texas or chicago style blues? Get an electric.

You can always get one or the other later on. I play the blues mostly, and I switch between acoustic and electric. My first guitar was an electric, but I bought an acoustic about 6 months after.
